Background

The Department of Community Resources was awarded a Maryland Department of Aging (MDOA) Senior Centers Activities Capital Improvement Grant of $800,000 to renovate and expand the Calvert Pines Senior Center. The Maryland Board of Public Works (BPW) approved the project at its December 3, 2025, meeting. Before requesting grant fund payments from the MDOA, Calvert County must file a Notice of Right of Recovery indicating the state may recover grant funds if, within 15 years of the completion of the project that an interest in the Property is assigned, transferred or conveyed without approval b y the BPW or the facility is used for other purposes than as a Senior Center.

Discussion

To receive grant funds from the State, the executed Notice of Right of Recovery must be recorded in the Calvert County Land Records. Recordation is a prerequisite to requesting reimbursement from MDOA. Once recorded, a certified (stamped) copy of the Notice will be obtained and transmitted to MDOA to satisfy grant requirements. Upon completion of these steps, the County will be able to submit reimbursement requests to MDOA. The first reimbursement request is anticipated in May 2026.
