Background
Safe Harbor, the county-owned domestic violence shelter, regularly exceeds capacity and one of the biggest barriers for victims is finding affordable housing. The site plan submitted to the Department of Planning and Zoning in 1996 included an expansion of the resource center and six transitional housing units. Last year, the Department of Community Resources applied for a Strategic Demolition Fund grant to support a revised site plan.
Discussion
Calvert County Government recently received the grant agreement for the fiscal 2026 Strategic Demolition Fund award totaling $300,000 from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. The funding will be contracted to a vendor to complete site development for the property.
