Background

Under Maryland law, health practitioners, law enforcement officers and human service workers who have reason to believe that a vulnerable adult is in danger are required to report their concerns to the local Department of Social Services’ Adult Protective Services office . If warranted, a joint investigation of suspected abuse or neglect may be conducted with local and state law enforcement, the local State’s Attorney’s Office, the Office on Aging and the health department.
